Ultimate Website Builder Comparison 2023 | Find the BEST One for You + Why I Hated Squarespace

Hey there, Sophie here! In today's blog post, I'll be answering the burning question that I know many of you are asking: What is the BEST website builder for me? As someone who has been designing websites for over eight years, I've had my fair share of experience with various website builders out there. So, let's dive right in, and I'll give you a rundown on each one, including their pros and cons, who might benefit most from using them, and my personal experiences with them.

And don't forget, this blog post is brought to you by the Live Learning EditorX.io community: an awesome platform that offers monthly NoCode Design Challenges with prizes, as well as mentoring to help you build your design business and elevate your career. So, if you're serious about design and want to be part of a supportive and empowering community, make sure to check them out!

Squarespace

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of Squarespace. Their ads are practically everywhere these days, and for a good reason. Squarespace has a lot of beautifully designed templates that make creating a website as easy as 1-2-3. You can have a fully functional and gorgeous website up and running in just an hour.

Pros

- Wide variety of beautiful templates

- Exceptionally user-friendly

- Domain and mailbox services available

- Option to create a blog or set up a shop

Cons

- Limited customization options

- Can be pricey for some users

Who's it for?

Squarespace is perfect for individuals or businesses who want a quick and easy solution for creating a website without much fuss. Particularly if they don't plan on making a lot of customizations later down the line.

My experience

Now, let me be honest. I didn't love Squarespace. While their templates are stunning and user-friendly, I found the customizability options too limiting for my taste.

Wix

Wix is another popular website builder that has been around for a while now. It offers a drag-and-drop interface, making it easy to create a unique and customizable website.

Pros

- Huge variety of templates

- Extensive customization options

- App Market for additional functionality

- Decent pricing for most users

Cons

- Not as user-friendly as some competitors

- Loading times can be slower than desired

Who's it for?

Wix is an excellent choice for individuals and businesses who desire a more customizable website-building experience. If you want to be able to fine-tune every aspect of your site, Wix might be the way to go.

My experience

I enjoyed using Wix for some of my previous projects. While the customization options were great, I did find the interface less intuitive than Squarespace. It took longer to create a website, but ultimately it was worth it for the level of control I had in the design process.

Webflow

Webflow is yet another website builder you may have heard of. This one is geared more towards designers and developers, as it offers a lot more customization options and coding capabilities.

Pros

- Highly customizable

- Excellent for designers and developers

- Integration with other apps and services

- High-quality templates

Cons

- Steeper learning curve

- More expensive than some other options

Who's it for?

If you're a designer or developer looking for a platform that allows for a greater level of customization and assistance with coding, Webflow is the one for you.

My experience

Personally, I loved using Webflow. As a designer, the immense control it offered was a dream come true. However, I can see how the learning curve can be intimidating for some users who aren't as well-versed in design.

WordPress

WordPress is one of the most well-known and widely used website builders in existence. With its extensive plugin library and customizable options, it's no wonder WordPress remains a reliable choice.

Pros

- Massive variety of themes and plugins

- High level of customization

- Great for blogging and SEO

- Affordable and scalable

Cons

- Can be a bit more technical

- Not as user-friendly as some other options

Who's it for?

WordPress is ideal for individuals and businesses that require a highly customizable platform and have some basic design and development knowledge.

My experience

While WordPress isn't the most user-friendly website builder, it's certainly been a reliable choice for me in the past. I've used WordPress for countless client projects, enjoying the level of flexibility it offers. However, I do recommend having at least some design and development knowledge if you plan to tackle WordPress.

EditorX

Last but not least, let's talk about EditorX. As the platform behind the Live Learning EditorX.io community, it's evident that I'm a fan of this website builder. And for a good reason!

Pros

- Intuitive drag-and-drop interface

- Highly customizable

- Responsive design capabilities

- Seamless integration with other platforms

Cons

- Newer platform, so still some potential growing pains

- Limited in terms of templates (though this is steadily improving)

Who's it for?

EditorX is perfect for designers who want a user-friendly experience without compromising on customization options.

My experience

I've grown quite fond of EditorX for its combination of user-friendliness and customizability. As someone who loves having the ability to modify every little detail on a website, EditorX has provided me with a platform that meets my needs while still being accessible for those who may not have as much experience in design.

Final thoughts

So, which website builder is the best one for you? It ultimately comes down to your needs, preferences, and skill level. Whether you're a student or a seasoned business owner, there's a website builder out there that's perfect for you.
